Kiwanis Club of North Suburban Golden K St. Paul, having initiated a Food Shelf operation in 1986 at the Fairview Community Center, has continued at that location (Co. Rd. B near Fairview in Roseville) until January 15, 2011.

During those 25 years, the need for and the use of the Food Shelf has increased steadily, requiring that two or three Kiwanis volunteers be on duty, each working one of the two days each week when it is open. The work is often strenuous, including unpacking, stocking shelves, assisting clients with selection and shopping for needed items not often donated. As many as forty different Golden K members have worked the Food Shelf each year. Another group of Kiwanis volunteers collect day-old bread donated by Panera and bring that to the Food Shelf every week. Operation is done cooperatively with Keystone Community Services who are responsible for screening of clients.

The Club has a yearly budget which is used to purchase food items not regularly donated. Cash donations when received from our members, friends and neighborhood churches are directed to our Kiwanis Foundation and are also used for Food Shelf purchases.

Since January 15, 2011 the Food Shelf has moved to the Hamline Shopping Center in Roseville. Our Kiwanis members now volunteer directly with Keystone Community Services, and continue to work the Food Shelf which is now open five days each week.

Our Kiwanis Golden K cooperates with the churches in our area who all have food collection drives for the Roseville Food Shelf.
